[38.06] The Environmental Impact of the Cluster Environment on Dwarf Galaxies

H. Lee, M. L. McCall (York Univ.)

We have undertaken a study of dwarf galaxies in the Virgo Cluster to investigate the influence of the cluster environment on galaxy evolution. The oxygen abundances for Virgo late-type dwarfs appear to be higher by as much as 0.5 dex compared to abundances for field dwarfs at a given gas mass fraction and gravitational potential. This apparent shift between relationships found in the two samples provides preliminary evidence for differential evolution of cluster dwarf galaxies with respect to field dwarf galaxies.
