[77.12] An estimate of the binarity of AeBe stars

N. Pirzkal, E. J. Spillar, H. M. Dyck (U. Wyoming)

The binarity of AeBe stars is investigated using high resolution K band observations of 40 stars obtained using the shift-and-add technique at the 2.3m Wyoming Infrared Observatory. We found 9 companions brighter than 9th magnitude at distances between 0.4" and 8" of the primary. Adjusting this number for fortuitous presence of field stars and comparing this number to the results of a monte carlo simulation, we estimate that the AeBe binarity exceeds 70
