[80.01] Influence of Environments on Star Formation Properties of Galaxies

Y. Hashimoto (Yale U.), A. Oemler Jr. (Carnegie Obs.)

We have used 15749 galaxies in the Las Campanas Redshift Survey, the largest imaging and spectroscopic survey of nearby galaxies to date, to investigate the influence of non-cluster environment on the star formation properties of galaxies.

We find that environmental effects exist outside the cluters, in such a way that galaxies at higher galaxy densities exhibit reduced star formation compared to the galaxies at lower density of the same morphological type.
