[82.04] Mass Estimates of a Sample of X-ray Luminous Galaxy Clusters from Weak Gravitational Lensing.

H. Dahle (U.Toronto), P. B. Lilje (U.Oslo, Norway), S. J. Maddox (RGO, UK), N. Kaiser (CIAR and CITA)

Results are presented from deep optical observations of a sample of X-ray luminous (L_x \ge 2 \times 10^44 erg/s) Abell clusters at redshifts 0.20 \leq z \leq 0.35 in the northern sky. Although we find strong lensing in the form of systems of faint blue arcs in two of the clusters (A1576 and A1722), our focus here is on the statistical measurement of weak gravitational lensing of background galaxies seen at larger cluster radii. Results concerning the amount and distribution of dark matter in the clusters are presented in the form of "mass maps" and mass-to-light ratios of the clusters.
