[92.05] VLBI Astrometry of the Planetary-System Millisecond Pulsar B1257+12

N. Nunes, N. Bartel (York U.)

VLBI astrometry observations of millisecond pulsars combined with timing measurements can be used to directly tie the solar-system dynamic reference frame to the extragalactic reference frame. From observations with a VLBI array of four antennas in Europe and the U.S.A. at a frequency of 1.6 MHz on 20 - 21 June 1992 we determined the coordinates of PSR B1257+12 in the IERS extragalactic reference frame with an accuracy of a few milliarcseconds. We will compare our position determination with previous interferometric and pulse timing positions and discuss prospects for a direct frame tie via millisecond pulsar observations.
