We present Keck spectroscopy of small (r<0.5^\prime\prime), high surface brightness galaxies in the flanking fields of the Hubble Deep Field. The spectroscopic data is used along with HST images to provide redshift distributions, luminosities, physical sizes, mass estimates and star-formation rates. We find the sample consists mostly of emission line galaxies, with a significant fraction (\sim25%) of early-type systems. Only a few galaxies in the sample are obvious AGNs or z>2 objects. The majority of the emission-line systems have properties similar to local \sc Hii galaxies.
