[27.10] Photometry of SN 1994ae

A. C. Heinlein, W. Herbst (Wesleyan U.)

BVRI photometry of the Type Ia SN 1994ae in NGC 3370 has been obtained with a CCD attached to the 0.6 meter Cassegrain telescope at Van Vleck Observatory. Images of the galaxy obtained more than one year after the supernova were used to correct for background light from the host galaxy. Light and color curves for the supernova are presented. Its behavior is compared with the templates of Hamuy et al. (AJ 112, 2438) and peak magnitudes and times of maxima are derived. There is evidence for a small amount of reddening. Absolute magnitudes are computed assuming a distance obtained by the Tully-Fisher relation (Bottinelli et al. 1984; Aamp;AS 56, 381).
