Session 30 - Amateurs & Professionals: Collaborators in the New Age of Electronic Astronomy.

Of the many ways in which amateur astronomers can collaborate with professionals working at observatories, universities, and institutes, we describe and illustrate some concrete examples that have produced spectacular results. Topics of special interest and importance include photography of comet tails, the discovery, astrometry and photometry of asteroids, and the discovery and photometry of variable stars of all types. Observing equipment needed: nothing more than 35mm cameras and modest-sized telescopes (14" or smaller). Detectors needed: naked eyes, photographic film and inexpensive CCDs. Observers needed: yes!
