[4.02] Interactive Computer Models of Arecibo Radio Telescope, Reflector Systems, and a Pulsar

C. Hardin (Amherst College)

A 3-D computer model of the Arecibo radio telescope was created using VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language). In the model, users can move around, manipulate moving parts, and click on parts of the telescope to bring up a description of that part. The model helps users understand the physical operation of the telescope better. Also created were VRML models of different reflector systems, to help people understand the optics of radio telescopes, and a VRML model of a pulsar.
