Session 16 - Astrometry.
Display session, Wednesday, January 07
Exhibit Hall,
The Automated Plate Scanner (APS) project includes three separate on-line databases or catalogs based on our digitized scans of the POSS I - - the APS Catalog of the POSS I is an object catalog of matched images that contains coordinates, magnitudes, colors, and other computed image parameters, the high resolution image database of all detected images, and the new Luyten proper motion database now in progress. We have made several improvements to the database pipeline including improved positions, especially for galaxies, using a new median centroider, better object classification at faint magnitudes, and integrated magnitudes for galaxies with an improved density-to-intensity calibration with a "sky" background subtraction. We are also developing new Web access tools for the manipulation and visulaization of the Catalog and image data. The three separate APS databases will also be integrated into a federated database system (FDBS) so that to the user they will appear as one easy-to-use database.
