[22.08] Multi-Epoch High-Frequency VLBI Images of Gamma-Ray Blazars

We present multi-epoch VLBI images of 41 gamma-ray bright blazars obtained with the VLBA at 22 and/or 43 GHz, with resolution of order 0.1 to 0.3 milliarcsec. While many of the sources exhibit superluminal motion, as seen at lower frequencies, the high-frequency structure is more complex, with stationary as well as moving features. In some sources, the changes do not appear to be systematic, and only in some cases does this seem to be caused by time coverage that is too infrequent. These complexities are similar in nature to those predicted by recent relativistic hydrodynamical simulations of compact jets.

For those sources with well-defined proper motions, the statistics of the apparent speeds will be presented. In addition, the epochs of extrapolated zero separation will be compared with times of high gamma-ray flux.

This research is supported by NASA under the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory Guest Investigator Program.
