Session 45 - Eclipsing Binaries.
Display session, Thursday, January 08
Exhibit Hall,
The massive binary system V356 Sgr has been observed spectropolarimetrically in the UV with the Hubble Space Telescope Faint Object Spectrometer at two epochs. In a previous poster we have presented the results from 1300-1600 AA which showed evidence of polarization from Rayleigh Scattering as well as asymmetric electron scattering. Previous data suffered from poor phase coverage, and only outside of eclipse UV spectropolarimetry was available. New polarimetric observations both inside and outside of eclipse have been obtained for the 1600-2300 AA region. These data show clear evidence of intrinsic polarization associated with the primary or mass gaining star.
We report on the results obtained from an analysis of these FOS data and comment on implications for current models of this system.
