Session 50 - Interstellar Medium I.
Display session, Thursday, January 08
Exhibit Hall,
The ISO Short Wavelength Spectrometer (SWS) dedicated time program, STARTYP1/2, will contain roughly 700 spectra of bright near to mid IR sources. The sources themselves cover a wide range of stellar and compact IR objects: main sequence stars, giants, oxygen and carbon rich AGBs, planetary nebulae, H II regions, and molecular clouds. All of which have different mid IR signatures.
We convolve roughly 50 SWS spectra with the response functions of the SPIRIT III sensors (4.6 to 26 µm) on the Midcourse Space Experiment to determine how SPIRIT III would view the STARTYP1/2 sources. This exercise is fundamental to the interpretation of the MSX stellar catalog of the galactic plane and IRAS gaps. The combination of ISO and MSX will aid greatly in the classification MSX sources.
