[76.07] Nuclear Stellar Clusters in AGN: HST/WFPC2 Observations of NGC1365, NGC2415, NGC1566 and NGC404

High angular resolution images taken with HST/WFPC2 in the F336W, F547W, F814W and linear-ramp filters are presented for NGC1365, an AGN in a barred spiral, and we also present data on NGC 2415, NGC1566 and NGC404. The goal of these observations has been to explore the interaction between AGN and their immediate environs, i.e. the starburst region in the vicinity of the nucleus. Although the UV nuclear region of NGC1365 is obscured, we discuss the starburst knots found in the spiral arms of the galaxy. The unresolved nucleus in NGC1566 is visible in F160BW and F336W, and spiral dust lanes appear to trace well within 1 arcsec of the nucleus. NGC 404 shows a distinct nucleus embedded in a dusty disk. Narrow-band H\alpha indicates a brilliant compact source near the nucleus, perhaps a very compact HII region or young SNR. Active star formation is confined to the immediate vicinity of the nucleus.
