[78.06] Optical and UV Spectra of NGC 1068

J. R. Ruiz (CUA), D. M. Crenshaw (CUA), S. B. Kraemer (CUA)

We present spectra of the Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 1068 from 1200 Angstroms to 7000 Angstroms, based on Hubble Space Telescope (HST) archive data obtained with the Faint Object Spectrograph (FOS). Spectra of the nuclear region and several nearby off-nuclear positions are presented. The strengths of emission lines spanning a wide range of ionization and critical density are shown for each region.

By comparing the line ratios from different locations in and near the nuclear region, we investigate variations in the physical conditions and reddening within the narrow line region. These conditions will help set further observational limits on existing models of Seyfert galaxies.
