[79.07] WFPC2 Observations of Populous Intermediate-Age Star Clusters in the Small Magellanic Clouds

K. J. Mighell (NOAO/KPNO), A. Sarajedini (San Francisco State U.), R. S. French (Middle Tennessee State U.)

We present our preliminary analysis of archival \slHubble Space Telescope Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 observations in F555W (\simV) and F450W (\simB) of the intermediate-age populous star clusters NGC 121, 339, 416, and Kron 3 in the Small Magellanic Cloud galaxy. We use published photometry of two other SMC populous star clusters, Lindsay 1 and Lindsay 113, to investigate the age sequence of these six star clusters. These WFPC2 observations show evidence of strong contamination by SMC field stars. We discuss how SMC field contamination has affected previous age determinations of these intermediate-age populous clusters.
