Session 99 - Supernovae & Supernova Remnants.
Oral session, Friday, January 09
Lincoln,
We present the RXTE high-energy X-ray spectrum of the remnant of the supernova of 1006 AD. A previous analysis of the ASCA X-ray spectrum of the shell of this remnant provided the first evidence that supernova remnants accelerate cosmic-ray electrons to energies as high as 100 TeV. The recent detection of gamma rays at energies > 3 TeV from SN 1006 confirms that this remnant accelerates particles to very-high energies. We review the radio, X-ray, and gamma-ray spectral data and discuss the implications of this data for particle acceleration in the remnant.
