Session 123 - Galaxy Evolution: Dwarfs & Clusters.
Oral session, Saturday, January 10
Lincoln,
We analyze observed metallicity and gas content as a function of galactocentric radius for several external galaxies in the context of galactic chemical evolution models with self regulated star formation. We develop semianalytic models to describe the evolution of mass and metallicity and constrain the models by abserved gas and metallicity gradients. We show that the effective yields for various elements can be explained if one allows for the possibility of an average initial mass function which varies with galactocentric radius.
