[12.09] The Binary System EG Cephei

R. J. Angione (SDSU and Mount Laguna Obs.), J. R. Sievers (San Diego Mesa College and Mount Laguna Obs.)

Both photometric and spectroscopic observations have been obtained of EG Cephei. Photometric and spectroscopic observations were made respectively with the 24-inch and 40-inch telescopes at Mount Laguna Observatory. The photometric measurements were made in the Stromgren uvby system during 1989 and 1990. The Wilon-Devinney program was used to model the system using all four light curves simultaneously. The best photometric fit is for a detacted system with spots and a mass ratio of 0.50. The temperatures of the primary and secondary components are 8500 and 5707K respectively. Preliminary analysis of spectra from Mount Laguna Observatory did not reveal lines attributed to the cooler companion. Future spectroscopic observations will at least yield the velocity curve of the hotter star.
