[38.03] Recent Enhancements to the Catalog Services of the ADC

The Astronomical Data Center (ADC) at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center is a major archive and distribution center for computer-readable versions of astronomical catalogs and journal data tables. The ADC's archives contain more than 2400 catalogs and tables of astrometry, photometry, spectroscopy, radio, high energy, and other miscellaneous data for stellar and non-stellar objects. Recent developments at the ADC and its sister data centers, including the Centre de Donnees astronomiques de Strasbourg (CDS), now give researchers expanded location, browse and retrieval capabilities for this rich and diverse collection of published data.

These expanded capabilities include online data previewing, subsetting, sorting, and plotting (as detailed in a companion display paper by Shaya et al.). This allows researchers to locate values of interest within archive data sets. The ADC web site now includes hyperlinks to the ADS abstract for the source publication for each data set, and searchable, hyperlinked descriptions of specialized data sets at other institutions, such as the Automated Plate Scanner (APS) Project's Catalog of the POSS I. The ADC has on-going cooperative efforts with the AAS and others to improve links between the electronic literature with its data in computer-readable form.

The ADC has recently released the fourth in a series of CD-ROMs containing many of the largest and most requested catalogs in ASCII format. Additional information on the ADC and access to many of its services is available through the Center's WWW site at http://adc.gsfc.nasa.gov/.
