We compute synchrotron and synchrotron self-Compton emission for the blast-wave model of gamma-ray bursts. We find that shape of the burst spectrum around the \nu F_\nu peak strongly constrains the magnetic field, the non-thermal particle distribution, and the bulk Lorentz factor of the blast-wave. The temporal and spectral variability of the prompt burst emission and the optical and X-ray afterglows are also studied as a function of relevant physical parameters such as the density of the external medium and degree of collimation and total energy of the blast wave. We present light curves and spectra demonstrating the variety of prompt burst and afterglow behaviors, and discuss how the blast-wave model can be tested by existing observations and future planned missions.
