[66.11] Near-Infrared Imaging and Spectroscopy of Circumnuclear Star Formation in M100

S. D. Ryder (Joint Astronomy Centre), J. H. Knapen, S. Laine, M. D. Pérez (U. Hertfordshire)

We present new near-infrared images and spectra of the circumnuclear star formation regions in M100. Images in J, H, and K have been obtained in conditions of 0.3'' seeing using IRCAM3 on UKIRT, and show a host of objects not apparent in previous images (cf. Knapen et al. 1995, ApJ, 443, L73). We have also obtained H- and K-band spectra with CGS4 on UKIRT of the nucleus and two of the most prominent circumnuclear star formation regions of M100. An analysis of the near-infrared colours and line ratios allows us to place new constraints on the ages, dust extinction, and stellar populations of these regions.
