We report mid-infrared and sub-millimeter observations of several luminous infrared galaxies (LIGs) taken with the ISOCAM imaging facility on board the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) and the Submillimetre Common User Bolometer Array (SCUBA) on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT). Our sample was chosen from the nearest LIGs to represent different phases of a merger sequence of galaxy-galaxy interaction with special emphasis on early/intermediate stages of merging. We find evidence showing that the star formation activity in these systems increases as the interaction progresses. We present here the first results from our mid-IR and sub-mm observations and discuss their possible implications.
