[6.01] NICMOS Observations of BL Lacertae Objects.

R. Scarpa, C. M. Urry, P. Padovani (STScI), M. O'Dowd (Melbourn U.), D. Calzetti (STScI)

The first results of HST NICMOS observations of BL Lacertae objects are presented. Selected target, observed through the F160W filter, are from the HST "snapshot" survey of BL Lacs (Urry, Scarpa et al. 1999), span redshifts up to z=0.6. Observations provide reliable color information for the host galaxy, which in all cases is fully resolved. The structural parameters of the host are studied, and result compared with what was found in the R band. Preliminary result indicate that the integrate color and color profile of the host are fully consistent with what observed in normal elliptical galaxies.
