A joint ASCA and RXTE observation of the bright Seyfert~1 galaxy MCG--6-30-15 spanning a time interval of \approx 400~ks confirms the presence of a broad skewed iron line and Compton reflection continuum at higher energies. We constrain the relationship between abundance and covering fraction for the first time at the 95 percent confidence level, and investigate the effects of gravitation on the reflection component. ASCA observations have shown strong evidence for a variable K\alpha emission line of iron; the high energy coverage afforded by RXTE coupled with ASCA's resolution at low energies will allow for a detailed study of the mechanisms that are responsible for variability for the first time.
