[26.02] Hobby-Eberly Telescope: current status

T. G. Barnes (McDonald Obs., U. Texas at Austin), L. W. Ramsey (Penn. State U.)

The Hobby-Eberly telescope (HET) is well into its second year of commissioning and rapid progress is being made on all HET systems. We report on the current pointing, tracking and image quality performance of the HET. We also outline plans for further improvement and estimate the performance we expect at the commencement of early operations sometime in the first half of 1999. Finally we will lay out expected science availability of HET facility instrumentation.
