[35.17] The Advanced Camera for Surveys Exposure Time Calculator

F.R. Boffi (STScI), S.R. Grosvenor (NASA/GSFC), R.C. Bohlin, M. Clampin, A. Koratkar (STScI)

The Advanced Camera for Surveys Exposure Time Calculator (ACS - ETC) is a WWW-based Java graphical tool (interfaced with Synphot) which is developed as part of the Scientist's Expert Assistant software prototype effort for the Next Generation Space Telescope (NGST). The ETC displays a graph of signal-to-noise ratios vs. exposure time for the various ACS filters and prisms in a Wide Field Channel (WFC), a High Resolution Channel (HRC), and a Solar Blind Channel (SBC). The flexible design allows easy integration of additional instruments and observatories. The WFC is two butted 2048x4096 CCD's covering the wavelength range 3500-10500~{Å}, the HRC is a 1024x1024 CCD covering the range 2000-10500~{Å}, and the SBC is a 1024x1024 FUV MAMA detector covering the wavelength range 1150-1800~{Å}. A description of the algorithms and some typical examples are available.
