In anticipation of Cycle 8 observations, two new tasks are being developed to help general observers deal with STIS spectroscopic data: an optimal extraction task and a spectrum spicer. We will present results from tests of the optimal extraction and spectrum splicing algorithms. In particular, we will show: \begin{enumerate} \item The application of the optimal extraction to STIS first order and echelle data with emphasis on the improvement in signal-to-noise obtained relative to the current pipeline extraction method. \item Results of the spectrum splicer's clipping and combining of echelle or first order data over a range of orders, central wavelength or scan settings. \end{enumerate}
