A. Gonnella (STScI), STScI Spectrographs Team
The first question on a STIS observer's mind upon receiving data is: Are my data OK? Several sources of information are available to help answer this question. Paper products which accompany the data may point out errors in calibration or blemishes in the data. Consulting STARVIEW and the STIS reference file and pipeline software histories can help an observer decide if the appropriate calibrations were performed with the correct files. An online archive of potential data foibles with explanations can be accessed at the STIS web site. All of these evaluations can be done before manipulating the data.
