[8.20] ROSAT Observations of the Field Near NGC~1058 & SN~1961V

C. J. Stockdale, J. J. Cowan, W. Romanishin (U. Oklahoma)

Using the ROSAT High Resolution Imager (HRI), we have made the first deep X-ray observations of NGC 1058 and the surrounding field. We identify a nuclear X-ray source, which is coincident with a previously determined, optical nuclear center. We also report the non-detection of SN1961V, within 3 \sigma. Positions and fluxes of other X-ray field sources are presented. Comparisons are made between NGC 1058 and other similar galaxies. The implications of the non-detection are discussed for SN~1961V.
