Nova LMC 1995 was observed with the ROSAT PSPC in February 1998, three years after the outburst, and detected as one of only three supersoft X-ray sources among classical novae. It is at present the only one which is still at nearly Eddington luminosity. ROSAT HRI observations show that the object was already bright in X-rays six months after the outburst and the X-ray flux increased during the following three months. Since then the nova seems to have remained at constant X-ray flux. We present in addition optical data which are instrumental to uderstand why this object was the only LMC post-nova and one of only three that became very luminous supersoft X-ray sources after the outburst.
