[65.13] STIS Observations of Interstellar Gas towards Radio Loop~{\sc i}

We present STIS ultraviolet observations of the interstellar gas towards two relatively high galactic-latitude stars located within the projection of the extended Galactic ISM structure known as Radio Loop~{\sc i}. The two stars HD~192273 (l,b = 325\circ.8,--32\circ.9) and HD~177989 (l,b = 17\circ.8,--11\circ.9) were observed using the E230H and G230MB modes available with STIS. The E230H spectra have a resolution of ~ 110,000 and extend from 2575 to 2850 Å~while the G230MB spectra have a resolution of ~ 7,000 and extend from 2480 to 2635 Å. Several components can be seen in the E230H spectra and include absorption by Mn~{\sc ii} 2576.87, 2594.5 and 2606.46 Å, Fe~{\sc ii} 2586.65 and 2600.17 Å~ and Mg~{\sc ii} 2796.35 and 2803.53~Å. Inferences on the conditions in the various absorbing structures in the ISM along the two sightlines are presented.
