LMC X-3, a luminous and highly variable black hole candidate, was observed with RXTE as part of an intensive X-ray and optical observing campaign, occurring over the course of one week in December 1998. Excellent coverage spanning five contiguous 1.7-day binary cycles resulted, with the highest attainable time and spectral resolution of RXTE. The X-ray luminosity varies on the order of 20 percent during this period. We present the results of a search for phase variations in the X-ray spectral components, as well as cycle-to-cycle spectral evolution. An investigation of the RXTE data for fast time variability of LMC X-3 will also be presented.
