We present the results from our timing analysis of an extensive series of 48 PCA/RXTE observations made during the 1998 outburst. The observations span the early rise, maximum and the first half of the decline. We trace the evolution of the multiple QPO and broad-band noise components within the context of spectral/timing state changes.
On the early rise a pair of very strong (23% and 6% rms) Quasi Periodic Oscillations were found at 3 and 6\,Hz. The frequency increased to near 13\,Hz as the 1630-47 brightened. In addition, at higher count rates, quasi-periodic dipping occurred. Although similar in appearance to the dipping of 1915+105 their detailed behaviour is different. The behaviour of the faster QPO during the dips is also discussed.
