[14.03] Prospects for Detecting Planets in Protoplanetary Systems

N.A. Butler (University of Notre Dame)

We analyzed prospects for detecting plants in protoplanetary systems via the infrared spectrum. This spectrum included contributions from the star and the protoplanetary disk, itself and with the presence of planetary-induced gaps. We spectrally modelled the basic protoplanetary system assuming a perfect blackbody for both star and disk. From this model, we have studied the effect of different particle sizes on the combined spectrum of star and disk. We have also studied the effect of a gap of various widths on the spectrum. From this analysis, we have determined the likelihood of detecting planet formation in the spectrum of a protoplanetary system.
