We present the results from a comparative study of two ROSAT High Resolution Imager (HRI) observations of the composite starburst/Seyfert~2 galaxy NGC~1672. This galaxy is known to show X-ray sources near the ends of its strong bar as well as extended X-ray emission near the nucleus. We have resolved one of the sources at an end of the bar into 2--3 components, and we find that the brightest of these appears to show significant variability on a timescale of \approx 4.5 years. This source is probably a highly luminous X-ray binary or the highly luminous remnant of a recent supernova. In addition, the improved photon statistics suggest the presence of large-scale diffuse X-ray emission that is probably associated with a hot interstellar medium. We also find evidence for several new, faint X-ray sources. New CTIO optical spectra of the nucleus of NGC~1672 are consistent with previous studies which revealed spatially resolved emission-line ratios consistent with a composite starburst/Seyfert~2 nature.
