The Sloan Digital Sky Survey has acquired five-band (u', g', r', i', and z') imaging data over several hundred square degrees during its photometric commissioning phase. Point-source objects with distinctive SDSS colors have been selected for follow-up spectroscopic observations with the ARC 3.5 m telescope. Among these objects, we have found a large number of high-redshift quasars (3.6 \lesssim z \lesssim 5), several L-type stars, and a number of objects with exotic spectra whose nature will require further observations to establish. Some of these appear to be members of new classes of object.
