[39.02] The Tully--Fisher Relation and H\circ

R. Giovanelli (Cornell)

The application of the Tully-Fisher relation to the determination of the Hubble constant relies on the availability of an adequate template relation and of reliable primary distances. HST has produced an unprecedented data set of primary distances, while other studies have advanced our understanding of the effects of the peculiar velocity field, bias and the intrinsic and observational scatter of the template relation. These effects will be discussed, and a survey of recent results will be presented.
