[85.12] The deepest X-ray images of supernova remnant Cassopeia-A

We present the deepest X-ray images of the line and continuum emissions for the supernova remnant Cas-A obtained to-date. Over 714 kilosecs of X-ray data have been collected for the purpose of spectral calibration of the Solid State Imaging Spectrometers (SIS) on-board the Advanced Satellite for Cosmology and Astrophysics (ASCA). By co-adding data from the 47 observations which comprise these observations we are able to map the X-ray emission in the Si, S, Ar, Ca, and Fe K{\alpha} lines, as well as the continuum, with unprecedented statistics. We present the first images of the Fe K{\alpha} line with sufficient photons to address the question of the spatial segregation of the higher atomic number elements. Furthermore, we consider the evidence for a non-thermal mechanism for the continuum emission.
