[75.01] IRIS Mariner 9 Data Revisited : 1) - An Instrumental Effect

V. Formisano, D. Grassi (IFSI-CNR, Area di Ricerca Roma Tor Vergata, Italy), G. Piccioni (IAS-CNR, Area di Ricerca Roma Tor Vergata, Italy), J. Pearl, R. Hanel, G. Bjoraker, B. Conrath (Goddard Space Flight Center, NASA, W. USA)

In using the IRIS - Mariner 9 data an instrumental effect has been identified which, although small enough so that does not effect essentially previous results, yet may be important for future studies. The effect consists in a duplication at twice the frequencies , of the spectral features, reduced to a small intensity of some percent of the real value. The effect is caused by an internal reflection of martian radiation from the entrance window. A possible empirical correction is given.
