We derive average extinctions and extinction corrected H\alpha fluxes in nearby, normal galaxies using narrowband imaging in two recombination lines: H\alpha and Paschen\beta. Since the expected ratio of these lines is insensitive to temperature and densities, we use the observed ratios to derive the total visual extinction in bright HII regions. We see spatially variable extinction, and in some cases heavily extincted nuclear regions.
