[57.06] Absorption Line Properties of z~.5 Radio Selected Quasars

We have recorded moderate resolution spectra and high resolution radio images of a sample of radio selected quasars (z ~2.5) discovered in the Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty centimeters (FIRST) VLA Survey. The survey is motivated by the study of a heterogeneous set of QSO absorption line spectra which show that as many as 37% of the absorbers normally thought to be intergalactic show correlations with physical properties of the background QSO, including the radio source spectral index. The optical spectra have been searched for the most frequently observed optical absorption lines including \ion{C}{4}. The radio images are used to determine the core spectral indices of the quasars, which are expected to be correlated with the line of sight orientation of the quasars. We present the results of a comparison of the absorption line properties to the radio properties of the quasars as they relate to the nature of intrinsic, narrow absorption lines in quasars. A Monte Carlo simulation of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) data set and how those data will affect the statistics of this analysis is also presented.
