Launch of the Far Ultraviolet Explorer (FUSE) has been followed by an extensive period of In Orbit Checkout and Science Verification in preparation for normal satellite operations. Major tasks carried out during this period include characterization of the far ultraviolet and visible channels, initial coalignment and focusing of the four instrument channels, and measurement of the resolution and throughput performance of the instrument.
We will describe the status of this testing, and present preliminary estimates of the on-orbit performance of the FUSE satellite during its first six months of operation. This work is supported by NASA contract NAS5-32985.
