[118.06] Kinematical Black Hole Results for NGC2841, NGC4552, and M87

C.L. Joseph, D. Merritt, R. Olling (Rutgers), M. Valluri (Chicago)

We present preliminary analyses of HST/STIS data for three galaxies. All data are long-slit spectroscopy of galaxy cores with a wavelength coverage around the 8600 Å\ Ca triplet. Data reduction was carried out with two independent software packages, one of which is the standard reduction package CALSTIS. Both packages give consistent results. Similarly, we performed two independent analysis using the FCQ method used by the entire STIS team as well as the MPL (Maximum Penalized Likelihood) method. Both analyses give similar results although the latter appears to give more robust estimates of the deviation of the LOSVD from Gaussian form, especially for low S/N data. Preliminary estimates of the black hole masses in these galaxies are presented.

Support for this work was provided to the STIS IDT by NASA.
