The cooling flow cluster PKS0745-191 was recently observed with the High Energy Transmission Grating (HETG) onboard Chandra. This moderate redshift cluster (z=0.10) contains one of the strongest known cooling flows (~1000 solar masses per year) as well as evidence for gravitational lensing. We present initial results from a combined analysis of the central undispersed image and the high resolution grating spectrum. We confirm the presence of a temperature gradient in the cluster as well as a strong cooling flow and metallicity gradient. In addition, the high angular resolution of Chandra allows us to resolve the core of the cluster on scales of ~3 kpc. Within the central 20 kpc, we observe a complex, double lobe morphology reminiscent of that seen at low redshift in the Perseus cluster. Comparison with VLA radio images which feature comparable spatial resolution show a rough anticorrelation between the radio emission and the X-ray emission. These observations suggest that the central radio source in PKS0745-191 could be an important source of local heating in the core of the cluster.

This research is funded under the auspices of NASA contracts NAS8-38249 and SAO SV1-61010.
