[9.13] Optical Imaging and Integrated Spectrophotometry of A Complete Subsample of UGC Galaxies

We present data and preliminary analysis of a combined imaging and spectrophotometric survey of a complete subsample of the Uppsala General Catalog (UGC). V-band images have been obtained for all the UGC galaxies within two narrow strips of sky covering ~700 square degrees. Integrated spectrophotometry in the wavelength range 3700Å to 7000Åhave also been obtained for the objects in the sample brighter than V~15. This survey of over 400 galaxies has been designed to study a representative sample of the local field galaxy population near L*. Its primary purpose is to provide a foundation of bright galaxy data at zero redshift -- essential calibration data for the large number of faint galaxy studies at high redshift -- with the accuracy needed to measure subtle levels of galaxy evolution at statistically meaningful levels.
