We present early FUSE observations of the central star of the planetary nebula K\,1-16 (l = 94.0, b = +27.4) covering the wavelength region 900-1188Å. The data were obtained during the in-orbit checkout phase of the mission, prior to completion of instrument focus and alignment. The FUSE spectrum exhibits a fairly clean stellar continuum with broad photospheric absorption lines arising from highly excited states of \ion{C}{4} and \ion{O}{6}, strong P-Cygni lines at \ion{C}{3} and \ion{O}{6}, and numerous narrow absorption lines from high and low ionization interstellar gas.
The location of this star in the Galactic halo and its close proximity to the line of sight to the QSO H 1821+643 (about 85 arcseconds) make it an ideal probe for determining whether absorbing material observed in the QSO spectrum is located within the Galaxy (and near halo) or in the outer halo.
