A new field has recently opened with the discovery of non-thermal emission in thermal shell-like supernova remnants (SNRs) such as SN 1006, Cas A, and IC443. This emission provides new constraints on the origin of cosmic rays and their acceleration to energies near 1015 eV. We have developed a hydrodynamical model of young SNRs which includes the effects of nonlinear acceleration (e.g., Berezhko and Ellison 1999) at the forward and reverse shocks. This efficient particle acceleration influences the dynamics of the remnants and modifies the X-ray line and continuum emission.
