[38.08] A Study of 1- and 2-moment Closures for Supernova Neutrino Transport

T.R. Young, A. Burrows, P. Pinto (University of Arizona)

We present results of 1-moment (flux-limited diffusion) and 2-moment closures for static neutrino atmospheres in the cores of massive stars. The code used in all calculations is an implicit, multi-group, spherical neutrino transport algorithm. Given these various closures, we calculate emergent spectra, luminosities, and net heating rates. We also compare the results using the various closures with those using a more precise technique to gauge the accuracy of such approximations.
