[112.11] X-Ray Study of the Bright W-R Star HD~93162 with Chandra

Y. Maeda, Y. Tsuboi (Penn State)

The brightest WN-star HD~93162 was observed with the ACIS imaging array on the Chandra X-ray Observatory in the performance verification phase on August, 1999. The Chandra image, which has an order of magnitude better sensitivity than previously achieved with ROSAT, is consistent with the point-spread function. This result constrains X-ray emitting region to be less than ~103 AU. The spectrum clearly shows emission lines from highly ionized ions. These results are consistent with the radiative wind shock model.
